In the book, "How To Save A Life", by Sara Zarr, the relationship between Jill and Mandy is complicated. Mandy wants a new life for her soon to become child, but does she really want to give her baby away. Jill is still in grief about her dad dying and thinks her mom is replacing Mandy's baby with her dad. Will they ever see eye to eye?
At first Mandy doesn't think that Jill will ever like her. For instance, it states, "Maybe she's nice too, just not to me." Mandy tries hard to make Jill like her but doesn't really understand why Jill does't like her. Secondly Mandy wonders if she is making the right decision about giving away her baby. For example it states, "For a second today I had the thought that I would like to keep this baby."Mandy didn't think ahead about what she wants for the baby. She keeps telling herself that she wants a better life and a real family for the baby.
Jill doen't think anyone understands what she is going through, especially Mandy. For example, it states, "How is Jill ever going to get through this?" This shows that Jill is always a little angry becaues she lost her father. That's one of the reason why she is always mean to Mandy. She doesn't want to talk to Mandy about her dad. She feels like Mandy won't understand. Another reason Jill doesn't like Mandy is because she doesn't know much about her. For example it states, "Notice how she ignored my last question." Jill wants to protect her mom. She thinks Mandy is going to run off with the baby.
In conclusion, Mandy and Jill are both different. They both have there own problems and throughout the book they learn to face it together. They learn to trust one another instead of questioning each other. Last but not least, they learn to understand each other. So by the end of the book Jill and Mandy's relationship is closer then ever.
The conclusion reminds me of you and I a little bit. We are different people with different problems but we face them together. I thought your conclusion was really good. I bet many other best friends can relate to what Mandy and Jill are going through in any situation or relationship. Great Job!!
