Have you ever felt the relief you get when you know the hardest part is over and you can finally relax, but then it turns out that was just the beginning. A common topic in the book The Scorch Trails is disappointment and anger. After Thomas, Teresa, Minho, and the other Gladers escaped the Maze they thought it was over, but that was just the beginning.
Disappoint, means "to fail to fulfill the expectations or wishes of". On page 8 it states,"Thomas had lived in fear and terror the past few weeks, but this was almost too much. To feel safe only to have that snatched away again." This evidence shows how Thomas is disappointed because after he escaped the Maze he felt safe. Something that he hasn't felt in a long time. But knowing that there is an another obstacle ahead was overwhelming to Thomas.
As a result of disappointment Thomas felt anger. He didn't know if he could take much of it anymore. On page 64, "I never said jack about me being braver than anybody. I'm just sick of hearing peoples voices. Yours included." This makes me think that because of knowing that the Maze was the beginning Thomas couldn't handle all of the disappointment that after a while he used the disappointed into anger.
In conclusion, one emotion turned into the other and Thomas couldn't take it. He was very overwhelmed knowing that he is going to take a jounary where he is going to lost some of the Gladers and the most important people in his life.
I thought this response was well thought out and thorough but I would recommend elaborating a bit. :)
